Earlier today a solar eclipse occured that only people in Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar and China got to fully experience. Others got a partial, but those were the places to see an almost total eclipse.
The Big Picture blog on Boston.com is one of my favorites to follow and they have an awesome post today with all kinds of photos from the eclipse. Check them out by clicking here!

Thought I’d pass along this photo from Dick McGowan, who happened to be storm chasing with Reed Timmer and company from the Discovery Channel’s Storm Chasers.
In the photo is a cameraman from the Discovery channel, Reed and their new Dominator (or SRV). The fact that this tornado is incredibly awesome, plus Reed got cut on his face from the driver’s side window blowing in…just gets me pumped for the upcoming season!

What a surprise to wake up Tuesday morning to the sound of rumbling thunder. I was already late for work, so I jumped up, took a quick shower (checked the radar of course) and zoomed off.
I did stop after about a mile to take the first two pictures below. Looking back towards the sunrise in [...]

Since the name of this site came from an actual word: Haboob, which refers to monster dust storms that hit the deserts around the world, I like to showcase cool haboob photography whenever I get a chance.
This is a fantastic one just shot by Chris Voyles on Saturday, July 18th down in Maricopa:

Despite lousy dew points and low humidty, and my awesome prediction skills (they suck), a fairly strong thunderstorm built up over south Chandler and then spread to a good portion of the East Valley.
We pulled in over half an inch of rain at my house and recorded a wind gust of 42.2mph.

As you all may be aware, I love weather photography and only wish to get better and better at it myself. I also enjoy passing on great photos taken from around the country (and the rest of the world) that I think you may enjoy.
With my home being in the southeastern area of Phoenix, I wanted to start a photo series based on pictures taken from around our beautiful state. There are a ton of great Arizona photographers out there and they need some highlighting.

Phoenix and the East Valley had a fairly massive, thick dust storm roll through town on Friday night. It quickly covered the town in blowing dust and heavy winds.
Although at my house we recorded just around a 25mph wind gust, I’m sure it was much higher out where there aren’t houses and trees to slow down the wind speed.

This storm didn’t do much for those of us in the greater Phoenix area, but it was about 20 miles northeast of my house, so I grabbed the camera and headed to the usual spot south of Hunt Highway.
The only downside about this little pullout in the desert south of my house…is the bugs. They just kind of land on you while you’re standing their watching a storm. Yuck.

A nice little storm came blowing through the far south side of Chandler tonight. It actually built up over Chandler, dumped about a tenth of an inch on my house and moved quickly south towards Maricopa and Casa Grande.
As always, the outflow boundary from the storms in Payson seemed to “jump” Phoenix and build up back in the deserts. Weird stuff.

The guys at Tornado Videos were out chasing storms again in South Dakota where strong storms has the potential for tornado formation. Near Black Hills, close to Rapid City, the below radar image was seen, which tends to indicate the strong likelihood of a tornado.
I thought I’d pass on the image so you could get [...]
