Weather photos for 3.20.09

This edition of weather photos takes a look at storm damage in Norborne, Missouri that occurred on June 17th. This specific storm hit the town with over 100mph straight-line winds that knocked trees over and did a lot of damage to building.

Straight-line winds are gusts that come from a thunderstorm and are classified by the National Weather Service as “severe” when they hit over 58 miles per hour. They are different from tornado winds because they tend to “push” debris in the same direction, whereas the tornado damage goes all over.

Pictures by Greatoz from Wunderground. He had this to say about the storm:

Straight line winds of 100 MPH blew through our small town and surrounding area June 17, 2009 around 6:30 PM. These pictures are of the tree damage in our yard. The whole town looks like this. Many homes lost shingles including ours, but no one was injured. Thank the Lord! We were without electricity for 22 hours. Our electric suplier, KCP
